Support for Young People in Argyll & Bute

Sometimes, what can make the biggest difference isn't another professional appointment or another programme...it's one person who keeps showing up.

Argyll & Bute Befrienders supports young people aged 6–18 experiencing social isolation through positive, consistent relationships with trained volunteer befrienders. Children and young people can experience family changes, disruption, isolation, difficulties at school, challenges with friendships or circumstances that make it harder to feel confident and connected - a trusted relationship can change everything.

Growing up isn't always easy.

Who can be referred?

Children and young people aged 6 to 18 who could benefit from having a consistent, trusted adult in their lives.

Young people need to live within Argyll & Bute so that we can create meaningful, regular connections with a volunteer befriender in their local community.

Young people who may be experiencing loneliness, social isolation, low confidence or difficulties building connections with others.

The young person must want to take part in befriending and they should feel comfortable with the idea of being matched with a volunteer befriender.

Young people who do not require personal care. Our befrienders provide social and emotional support; they are not trained to provide personal care or support.
